Landscaping and Lawns

If you are thinking of redesigning your landscape area, make sure to take your time and draw it out. It really helps you to visualise it and sort out any problem areas. If its possible do it to scale so you can map out the space on it. There is nothing worse than spending money and time on your dream landscape area and find you have miscalculated on space and that main feature you would really like, just wont fit!

If you are a beginner to gardening, take a trip around your landscape to inspect the trees and bushes to ensure they are still in good condition. If you see some are overgrown or some that look like they might fall, get a tree surgeon out who can assess it and deal with it. It is not a job for a novice.

Money can be saved by planning ahead of time and spreading out your project throughout the year. If you are not in rush to do it one go you could save significant money. For example, spring and summer drives the prices up on plants and furniture for your garden area.

If you purchase plants like shrubs and trees late in the year you will save money because they need to move them on. If you are looking to plant some tree’s the best time to buy is actually in winter. You can easily prepare the entire area over the course of the summer and just plant it out over the autumn and winter months so it comes into bloom next summer.

Always inspect the labels on your plants , ensure that you know its expected height and its growth rate otherwise you might have a problem after a couple of years. You may decide not to bother with that cute little shrub if you find out how quickly it can become an overgrown nightmare. Some hedges and plants may require more pruning and maintenance than you bargained for, so do your homework before you decide on what type of greenery you want in your garden.

If you’re new when it comes to gardening, gardening centers can give you advice and guarantees. They can provide you with information on the type of planting and soil you will need for some styles of planting as well.

Patio

A patio area is the place where you generally would have your chairs and tables to sit out on. It is normally laid with flagstones or garden paving and the designs and shape of it can be virtually endless. The main thing when designing your patio is size! Make sure its large enough to handle your chairs and table and gives enough space to walk around the table as well.

Do not base your main cost on the materials for a patio area. For example, standard paving flagstones are easy to lay but if you opt for an Indian sandstone style, it requires significant longer to install and will need a proper contractor to lay it correctly. It might be worth it to pay a professional designer to help you create the kind of space and design you will use and enjoy throughout different seasons.

You need to decide how much design you actually want in your landscape. While it’s less costly to build a square deck or patio, it is not worth it if you don’t like the outcome, and if you don’t use it as a result. You may wish to hire a designer to create something you can use.

When it comes to the shape of your patio area, don’t let budget interfere. Try to choose a shape that will complement the landscaping and lawn areas. It can be curved, circular or square. Again draw it out to visualise it and the lawn next to it.

If you are going to use an automatic irrigation system, make sure it will properly water your entire yard. Do not waste any water, by placing sprinklers too close to a wall, or to your patio. You should also remember to turn your system off if rain properly irrigated your garden earlier.

Create a winding walkway or a perfect patio by using flagstones. They make a great feature when you can wrap them around a lawn and the bonus is that in the wet months, you won’t get your feet wet if you have to down through the lawn area! Just make sure to finish them flush with the lawn otherwise you will have a tough time when it comes to mowing the lawn.

Don’t let your lack of knowledge regarding plants and flowers stop you from having that beautiful yard to go along with your beautiful life. Landscaping is easy if you have the right information and a little bit of know-how. Take your time and mostly, enjoy it.
