Affordable Homes in County Kerry

Affordable homes are provided by Kerry County Council to help people who want to buy a home in Kerry but cannot afford to buy on the open market.   If you want to apply, check that you meet the criteria below, download the application form available on this page and return it to the Council.

To Qualify for an Affordable Home

 you should: 

• be a first time buyer (certain exceptions apply)
• be in a financial position to make the required mortgage repayments
• An eligible person is defined as the following:  A person who is in need of accommodation and whose income would not be adequate to meet the payments on a mortgage for the purchase of a home to meet his or her accommodation needs because the payments calculated over the course of a year would exceed 35% of that persons annual income, net of income tax and pay related social insurance.

Applicants will be assessed against a points based criteria 

• The Accommodation needs of eligible persons
• The current housing circumstances of eligible persons
• Whether eligible persons have been living in the area of the development plan or elsewhere
• Distance of affordable housing from places of employment of eligible persons
